DLP and DAM are two technologies related to discovery, monitoring & protection of data that are in the news, but often confused.
- Where: DLP is focused on the edge/egress and is evolving towards end-points. DAM is focused on the core data center, around the databases and file servers.
- What: DLP is becoming a security mainstay for many enterprises struggling to assess their edge leakage risk. DAM is has been focused more on compliance of databases, but it is rapidly evolving into broader, core data risk management.
Some good news to help clear up this confusion. Rich Mogull of Securosis is doing a Webinar focused on this topic on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 at noon EDT.
The Webinar is sponsored by Tizor. Check it out: information/registration. I have known Rich for a while now, he is one of the most perceptive security analysts around.
